     Benedict Swingate Calvert was Collector of Customs for the Patuxent District from 1745 and a member of the Maryland Council as well as a Judge of the Land Office. He held all three offices until the American Revolution and then retired from public life and lived quietly at Mount Airy until his death in 1788.
